Dr. McBride was raised in the beautiful city of St. Catherine in Jamaica. She completed her undergraduate degree in Honors Biology at Wayne State University. Dr. McBride went on to complete her doctorate at the prestigious University of Michigan School of Dentistry. She now lives in Grand Rapids, MI.

We asked Dr. McBride a few questions so you can get to know her a little better!

What led you to seek a career in dentistry?

“I had the opportunity to go on a mission trip and was quite surprised to see how far people would travel just to see a dentist. Seeing the bright smiles on their faces after just receiving a toothbrush was really a turning point for me. Those big smiles brought with them a realization, oral health is so important to our well-being and overall health. From that day on, I wanted to be a part of a team that helps patients improve their oral health so they can live happier and healthier lives!”

What is your typical go-to lunch while on a workday?

“Can’t go wrong with a good ol’ peanut butter and jelly sandwich or if I have a busy day a protein shake.”

What memberships are you currently involved in?

“I am a member of the American Dental Association, Michigan Michigan Dental Society, and the American Dental Education Association.”

If you could have someone narrate your life, who would you want it to be?

“I would have Eddie Murphy narrate my life.”

“I have to go with Celine Dion, Cardi B, and Bob Marley!”

“I’ve been lucky to work with underserved populations through Give Kids a Smile and Missions of Mercy!”

Do you have any exciting plans or any bucket list items you want to check off this year?

“I would love to visit the Sleeping Bear Dunes this summer!”

“Learning pottery and painting has been an amazing pastime for me because it gives me a way to practice dexterity when I’m not in the office working with patients!”

“The Proposal, The Notebook, and Avengers End Game.”

What is your favorite part about working with patients?

“I enjoy the education component. I also enjoy getting patients out of pain; it is rewarding knowing you can help someone to feel better.”

If you could be an Olympic athlete, in what sport would you compete?

“Track”

Did you ever study under a well known individual in dentistry?

“Yes, I count myself lucky to have been taught by Marita Rohr Inglehart, DDS, Phil., Habil., who is known for her research in the role of social determinants of health and health care, as well as educational research in creating patient-centered and culturally aware future dentists. Dr. Inglehart has served as the only Associate Editor for the Journal of Dental Education, the official journal of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), for the past 8 years. She also chaired the Behavioral Science section of the ADEA twice in the past and served as a consultant to ADEA on various occasions.”

How do you treat yourself after a long day of work?

“A nice warm bath to relax.”

What is your favorite type of treatment to do?

“I love restorative dentistry!”

What do you like to do on rainy days?

“A good book always pairs well with a rainy day!”

What is your favorite movie quote?

“Do or do not. There is no try.”

What’s the most beautiful place you’ve ever been?

“My home country of Jamaica!”

“I LOVE to build lego-sets, go for long bike rides, and a good cup of tea!”
